Personal Statement
My name is Jessica Herft, and I'm a 5"4 Point guard from Melbourne, Australia.
I participated in my first basketball game when I was 9 years old, and I've been obsessed with the game ever since. I feel happiest when I have a basketball in my hands and it's my biggest passion in life to play the game that I have grown to love so much. I take pride in my work ethic as I'm always working to improve myself each day, whether that be on the court or in the gym. To play College basketball in the United States would be a dream for me. I believe in the value of effort and commitment in becoming the best version of yourself, and I bring this with me each time I step on court.
I'm a supportive player who is always cheering for my teammates' accomplishments and encouraging them on and off the court. As an individual player, I'm aggressive on offense and defence, and am always one step ahead of everybody in speed. My ability to control the ball helps me to work my way to both sides of the rim, as well as finding my teammates around me to get them the score. I'm a coachable player who is always seeking feedback on ways to improve my game.
Just like my attitude towards basketball, I know that the only way to get the results is by putting in the work for it, and this is also exemplified in my academics. I know how to organise, plan and prepare myself for assessments to get the results that I want. There is no doubt that these same habits will extend into my years in college, where I hope to begin my pursuit for a pathway in Psychology.
