Personal Statement

Attending college in America has always been something i have dreamt of and wanted to do, yet what is just as important as my passion is how well suited i am to the student-athlete lifestyle. As someone who has juggled both a heavy basketball and academic workload over the last few years i know the focus that is needed to be a successful college student.  For myself the academic aspect of college is just as, if not more important than basketball, so attending a school that can give me the best opportunity for my future is cruital. What i plan to be majoring in is Biologial science, specifically Zoology and Conservation Biology. In finding a school for myself, geographical location and school size is secondary to finding a college that is best for me acadamically and basketball wise.

I believe its important not only to find a college to suit me but also find a college that i can contribute to. I am someone who is very competitive and determined and always expect the best from myself.  My experiences in basketball also have provided me with skills and tools that add to
what I can contribute to a  team. I have played in 4 Australian National Championships, between 2009 and 2012. These tournaments were the highest level of competition within Australia for my age group, and from my experience I have learnt how to manage the pressure that came with it, for example this year I had to deal with the pressure of being in a bronze medal game. Also as I was the captain for the Western Australian team for 2 of these tournaments, I am equipped
with strong leadership skills.

My greatest basketballing achievements have been playing in those national tournaments and also being a part of the Australian U/19 Gem's squad to be competing in the World Championships in 2013. In being part of this squad I have learnt to endorse all of the well
renown Australian basketball values, one being for example relentless persistence, which was needed to get through the high intensity Gem's training camps. I now carry these national basketball values as part of my game.

My goals in terms of going to college is to study hard and acheieve the best academic results I can and enjoy being part of a team who works together to win. Personally I hope to improve and learn as a player and hopefully make an impact in helping the team achieve success.
