My name is Riley Hett and I will be entering my Senior Year at McPherson High School in McPherson Kansas. I am currently holding a 3.97 GPA with a projected graduation date in the spring of 2019. I am very active with extra-curricular school activities and I am also a volunteer for the Special Olympics. Another strong passion of mine is competing athletically, which is why I am writing to you today.
I have been playing basketball since I was 8 years old and it is a strong passion of mine. Growing up I have played for a number of traveling teams out of the greater Wichita Kansas area. After this season I will be playing for a Next Level/Eclipse traveling team out of Wichita which is coached by Evan McCorry. Currently, I am a 5’-7” 135 pound starting comb guard at my high school this year.
I have been on the varsity basketball team my high school career and a starter my sophomore and junior year. In my 3 years we have a combined record of 63-8 with 3 consecutive state appearances. My freshman year we were eliminated in the first round, but since then, we took second my sophomore year and became state champions this past year.
Along with playing basketball since I was 8 years old, I have also been playing soccer since that early age. After playing many positions I finally settled into the goalie spot. Basketball and soccer are very similar and by playing both of them I have developed great instincts, foot skills and anticipation.
In my 3 years of soccer I have been the starting goalie on a team that has made it to state all 3 years (taking 3rd place my freshman year and again my junior year). My competitive drive and tenacity has been a positive attribute for me not only in athletics but in the classroom as well.
