Playing varsity basketball fulfills a goal I set for myself as a 7th grader when I was fortunate enough to be the ball girl for Eaton Rapids High School when they won the 2014 Michigan State Girls Class B Basketball Championship, the first in our schools history. As a member of that talented team, I saw first-hand the amount of physical commitment, time dedication and practice intensity it takes to be a champion. I was on the bench and in the locker room listening to game strategy, which helped to increase my basketball intelligence. Most of all, I learned the value of teamwork and when you stick together you can accomplish anything. The experience of standing on the MSU Breslin Center floor during a state finals game motivates me to return again. My new goal is to take my varsity team back to the state finals as the team leader and captain.
Playing three varsity sports has helped me to understand how to manage my time while prioritizing my school work. I will need these skills to accomplish my goal of graduating at the top of my class in 2019. I want to be a Pediatrician, eventually returning to my home town, where currently there is not a pediatric practice. I know that the skills I am learning now will help me accomplish my goals both on the court and off.
I am excited to find a school that would allow me the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love while also pursuing a quality education. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement.
