My name is Kara Straub and I am an 11th grader at Michigan Center High School, graduation year, 2026. I am just getting ready to start my varsity season with Michigan Center I also play AAU basketball with the Michigan Mystics.
I have had a love for playing basketball since I was in the 1st grade, attending and playing in my school districts yearly Little Warrior camps, to now playing with the Mystics. I am honored to also have played on my schools varsity team as a freshman and am excited for school ball this year as a Junior at Michigan Center High School.
In the last several years I have been blessed with the opportunity to play with some pretty amazing teammates and learn from some pretty amazing coaches. I have played at different levels and in many different parts of the country. I don’t take these opportunities for granted and realize such a privilege it would to be given the opportunity to play at a higher level and guarantee if given that opportunity I would not disappoint.
I am no stranger to hard work. I literally live and breathe basketball, training twice a week with a trainer through the LBI academy. I also attend weekly practices, strength and agility trainings twice a week and a shot coach, Secor training out of Grand Rapids MI, all the while maintaining a 4.26 GPA.
Standing at 6ft 1in tall, I am a high IQ, versatile player on the court, with the ability to play inside as a post player or outside as a power forward. I have always been told that I play “long,” with the ability to get to the basket quickly to score, however I am no stranger to hitting a mid-range 15’ or a 3 pointer. I always look to score but see the court really well and always make sure I pass to the open girl. I love being part of a team and love helping my team members succeed. There is nothing better than walking out on the court and getting the job done as a unified team.
Basketball has taught me so much already, not just about the game but about life as well. It has taught me that I have so much more to learn and I know it’s going to take a lot more work to reach my dreams of playing college basketball. Life is not easy and everything that you find passion in takes a lot of work and even then nothing is guaranteed. Even the best make mistakes and are continuously learning. Nothing is given, only earned and I have to be willing to put in the extra effort to be the best. Basketball has also taught me that in order to reach a common goal, I have to be a great team player to get the job done. I’m excited for the future and I know that with hard work and my ability to grow as a player, I will become the best that I can be and any college that allows me the ability to play for them will not be disappointed.
