My name is Lauren Kilbarger and I am a 5'8"freshman shooting guard/power forward at Tecumseh High School in Michigan. During my freshman season, I was a starter on JV, nominated to be the captain by my coach and teammates, and I was asked to join our varsity program to play 5 quarters for a few games, and I have been asked to play varsity during our districts tournament. I began playing basketball at an early age, but it wasn't until recently that I realized I would able to play at a college level. 8th grade was when I started my first year of AAU, and I really bonded with my coach and teammates. I played with them throughout the normal AAU season, and then again throughout the summer and early fall. The thing I love most about basketball, is how you need to think quick, yet not think at the same time. I have really struggled with confidence, and it wasn't until I began to embrace the not thinking aspect of the game, that I really began to shine. I average about 13 points a game, and have helped to lead my team to a 17-1 record as of now. I am a great listener, and always take advice to heart. I also have a great work ethic, and I push myself everyday. I believe my academics stand out from other athletes since I am ranked 1/220 students in my class and have a 4.0 GPA. I take as many honor classes that are offered to me, and next year I'm planning on taking Advanced Placement classes since they were not offered to freshman. I am hoping to find collegiate opportunities in which I am able to continue with my basketball career and also pursue higher academics.
