It is my dream and goal to play college basketball!
I am the youngest girl of 6 siblings. I grew up playing basketball with my older brothers and sisters. We are a very competitive basketball family. I am a three sport athlete but prefer basketball. I have had to play all positions and I feel this has made me an all around competitve player.
I grew up on a Montana farm helping my parents and also working a job at an assisited living establishment in Great Falls, MT. I also own a coffee cart on wheels that we pull to different events throughout the summer. I am not afraid of hard work.
This year has been a challenge for me as we lost 6 Senior players last spring. One of those being my sister whom I have played with my whole life. We played well together as we knew each others strengths and weaknesses well. I really miss playing with her! This season has been a challenge for me as we have only one of our previous varsity teammates back on the team. I am playing with a whole new team and also a new coach with a new program. This was also the case for volleyball. Although it has been a difficult season to know my role and to learn to work with new players and a new coach I also see it as a season of growth for me. I have been a starter and a captain all through my high school career but never really felt the weight of that until this year. I am playing with girls who have not had any varsity experience and we are losing games after being conference champs the last three years. I knew in advance this would be the case and could have switched to another school in my area with a winning program but chose to stay and finish strong and graduate with my classmates and trust that if I was meant to play college basketball a door would open up for me.
I am an honor student and active in many school activities. I am also my class president. I am a 10 year 4-H member enrolling in quilting, swine and steer. I enjoy the outdoors.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my prsonal statement and check out my profile. I would love to visit if you have any questions for me.
Respectfully,
Janessa Willekes
