Raven Herrera '16 Recruiting Profile

My name is Raven Herrera and I am a junior enrolled at Volcano Vista High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am a hard working individual on the basketball court and in the classroom. I play on the varsity girl's team as a captain and starter, and have maintained higher than a 3.0 grade point average throughout my entire high school career. It has been my biggest goal to play the sport I love at the collegiate level. By playing in college I will not only get a chance to live out that goal, but will also get the chance to expand my education with the intention of acquiring a degree in chemical engineering.

I want to go to a school that challenges me on the court, in class, and in the community. As a captain I have learned what it is to be a leader. A leader is someone who not only pushes themselves to get better, but also everyone around them in a positive way. A leader encourages and communicates with every single teammate personally, and with the team as a whole. It is also important to maintain a healthy, positive attitude in the face of adversity. The lessons I have learned as a leader on my team has not only helped me in basketball, but also in life. I feel these skills will continue to allow me to excel at the college level.
