My mom always said I was going to be an athlete. When I first started walking, she noticed how coordinated I was and knew I would be great at sports. I started playing basketball when I was around 6 years old in a league called Upward basketball. I also grew up playing other sports including softball, soccer, and track but I’ve grown to love basketball the most. It was my 8th grade year when I first considered taking my talents to college. I wish to play college basketball because of my love for the game and the possible relationships I could make with teammates and coaches. My academic goals for high school are to graduate with an honors diploma and I also would like to leave my name behind in some way for my talent in basketball. Some of the primary things I am looking for in a college are: the major I wish to pursue, a great coaching staff, and professors who take time to develop relationships with their students. I would also like to have the opportunity to be able to grow in my Christian faith. I am also hoping to succeed in my major and classes in college. At this point I am interested in majoring the field of finance.
Through basketball, I have learned the importance of time management, hard work, being a good leader, and team chemistry. During my sophomore year, I learned a lot about perseverance. Though I didn't achieve the goals I wanted to because of post Covid-19 effects and a mild concussion, I have learned to be very patient and do the best I can in the moment. I believe I would be a good fit to any college team because I am great under pressure, especially when it comes to ball handling, and I have great court vision. My greatest honor so far was receiving the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award in 8th grade. This prestigious award recognizes a student athlete who displays great levels of leadership, sportsmanship, hard work, and perseverance. I am very humbled to be recognized in this way. Over the summer between my 9th grade year and the start of my sophomore year in high school, I improved my shot tremendously and skills all around. This coming summer, I am planning on getting in the weight room at lot more and putting up a ton of shots along with working 20+ hours a week. I am extremely determined to meet the expectations I have for myself and am ready to do the hard work it takes to achieve them.
