My name is McKenna Gilbert. I am the oldest of three sisters, and I live in Springfield, Oregon. I have been playing basketball since the second grade. My parents believed it was important for me to learn to compete both academically and physically. I have played a variety of sports, softball, tackle football, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, and I also dance hula. Out of all of these, I didn’t feel the same passion for any of them as I did for basketball. When it came time to make a choice on what sport I wanted to put all of my heart into, I chose basketball. This choice had a lot to do with my 8th grade coach, who taught me how to love this sport and be able to learn all of the lessons it had to teach me. She inspired me to be my best at all times and to play with everything I have so I never leave the gym with any regrets. I also love to compete and work hard, whether it be on the court or in the classroom. I want to play college basketball because I’m not ready to give up what I love most. I have yet to reach my full potential, and I would like the opportunity to do so.
