My name is D'erra Townes. I am a now a senior student-athlete at Conrad Weiser High School in Robesonia, Pa. My junior season is over and I am currently doing everything I can to improve for my senior season. My motto is "temporary inconveniences = permanent improvements". This summer I am attending camps, getting up 600 shots and ball handling 4 days per week at open gyms. The other 3 days I am doing strength and conditioning with the school trainers. I feel like I could have done so much more to help my team last season. Honestly, I was not prepared for the challenge. I thought that my athletic ability and understanding of the game was enough. Not being able to come thru for my team and coaches hurt me tremendously. Losing taught me that I have a long way to go to maximize my talent and I have accepted that new challenge. Playing in my last year of aau this summer has allowed me the opportunity to improve parts of my game by implementing the skills and mental approach that I have added so far this spring/summer. I have been playing basketball since I was 7 years old. Next to my family, it has become my greatest passion. I love the game at all levels.
I consider myself to be an effort driven student. I will admit that things do not seem to come as easy for me in the classroom as they do on the basketball court, but I have always managed to maintain good grades by studying and getting extra help when I need it. I take pride in earning my grades, because they are a reflection of me as a student. I understand that high school academics and sports are more challenging and there will be tougher obstacles to overcome in the future, but I will improve on the methods that have helped me to achieve my current success on the court and in the classroom. I challenged myself last school year with to focus harder academically and I understood that there would be social events that may have to be sacrificed for the importance of my education and my craft. I was proud to earn a 3.1 gpa. I am currently taking sat prep courses to prepare for the SAT in Aug. Lately, I have experienced an interest in Sports Medicine.
Please check back periodically for updates to my profile. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Best Regards,
D'erra Townes
