Hi! My name is Maritza Wiggins and I’m a senior at Conrad Weiser High School. I play on my high school varsity basketball team and on a travel team called Eastern PA Elite. Standing at 5’8” I play the forward position. My strengths include shooting 3s, making layups, contributing greatly on defense, and being able to find the open girl on the court. A report from the Spooky Nook “Big 60” camp described me as “a great open court player” that can “get to the rim.”
Basketball is my primary sport but, in addition, I play volleyball and softball. I use these sports to cross train and help my overall performance in basketball. I also train in speed and strength. My goal this year is to get faster in transition offense, dribble to the hoop more often, shoot more 3s, and strengthen my body to prevent injuries. In the AAU season, I am working to become a “3 and D” player. With my size and shot, my coaches and I believe this is the best position for me.
I take the “student” in student-athlete very seriously. I challenge myself in the classroom with AP and honors classes. I have maintained a 3.9/4.0 GPA throughout high school and continue to excel in my classes.
Academics is the most important factor I look for in a college. I am looking for a college with strong academics in architecture as well as a basketball program. I also participate in some school clubs, perform lots of community service, and play multiple instruments. I want to continue these hobbies throughout college.
The hard work and dedication shown in the classroom can also be seen on the basketball court. I am very coachable and welcome constructive criticism. I learn from my mistakes and try new strategies coaches recommend. Being respectful to coaches and fellow players is another important trait I demonstrate. In order to work together on the court, there needs to be some level or friendship or respect. I am a team player and I believe that teamwork wins games.
Thank you for reading!
