Hi, my name is Graycee Postma. I am a sophomore in high school and go to Lennox South Dakota. I currently am a starting shooting guard for junior varsity, and I get some playing time in the varsity game. I have done basketball my whole life and am very passionate about it. When I am not playing school sports, I make sure to put the work in for every sport throughout the year. During the summer I am currently playing for Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, SD. Ever since my first year of basketball, I knew that this was my sport.
Over the years I have learned so much about not only basketball but about myself. I have learned that if I put the work in, I can get to where I want to be. I have also learned how to have mental toughness. When things don’t go my way, I have learned to not show it in my face and to not take any of my anger out. When I do this, I am showing that I can be a leader and show the rest of my teammates that when things don’t go our way that we shouldn’t show it. Basketball has given me some way to just relax and not have to think about anything going on in the world.
I have strong ball-handling skills, strong physical defense, great shooting, and mental toughness. I make sure that I practice my ball handling when I get the chance. I like to work on things that I am not as good at so that I can get to where I want to be. I have great endurance because I am a varsity crosscountry runner, so I don’t get tired easily. When I am practicing, I work on my footwork so that I can move quickly and not let the offensive player get by me. I practice my shooting all the time. In the summer when my coach is doing workouts for younger girls, I ask him if I can come in and shoot. When I come in, I usually get about a 1 to 2-hour practice of just shots in. I always make sure to not show when things get me down and try to come up with solutions to problems that are happing in the game.
I am hoping to go to college on a basketball scholarship because basketball is the sport, I am the most passionate about. I also want to be able to meet my goals. Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to go to college for basketball. Besides basketball I am hoping to become a physical therapist so that I can help young, injured players get back to doing the sport they love. My dream job alongside of become a physical therapist is that I want to open my own basketball association. I want to be able to teach young players about basketball to get more people as passionate about basketball as I am.
I am so grateful for everyone that has helped me get to where I am today. My parents have helped me so much. They are always there for me and always make sure that I am happy. They have put so much of their time into my basketball so that I can get to where I need to be. My coach’s have pushed me to become the player I am today. They have helped me through my ups and my downs. I can always go to them when I have a problem. I am very grateful for all that have helped me throughout my basketball career.
