Sports run parallel to life. They teach you to work toward a defined goal. Growing up with two older brothers really influenced who I am today. They were always faster, stronger, and smarter than me, so in our household we were always competing for something. When it came to sports my brothers were the first ones to start playing. They played various sports and so did I. I have loved and practiced volleyball, basketball, cross-country, track and field, tennis, and soccer, but the sport that caught my eye was basketball. I started playing basketball in 1st grade and haven't stopped playing ever since.
The first 2 years of playing basketball in elementary school were fun, but as I grew older basketball has been my life's work. I was fortunate enough to make the varsity team as a freshman, and receive the most prestigious award any freshman can get, newcomer of the year award. However, my freshman year was not as exciting as I expected it to be. Some of the upper-class were not at all happy that a freshman was taking their playing time. However, my freshman year made me stronger and better for my sophomore and junior year. I took the time to detail skills and techniques and practice them. It payed off my next two years Throughout these two years I was given the opportunity to be a starter and role model to the underclass freshmen and sophomores. I have learned to become the leader for the team and collaborate more efficiently with coaches and colleagues to produce results. I want to compete with others at a higher level. I have always had the mindset that we can make it to the state championship. Although we have only made it to the Sweet Sixteen, I feel like I have grown to be a smarter player when we play against tougher teams.
In college, I look forward to growing as a student-athlete, while pursuing my dream of being a veterinarian. I’m looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I believe that I have what it takes to take it to the collegiate level. Not only do I have the talent to compete at a collegiate level, but I have the character, work-ethic, and leadership skills to make a huge impact on your program.
