Beginning of 2020:
My doctor released me to return to play at the end of January! Since then I have been able to play in our district, state, and regional tournaments. My team placed first at district and state, and third at regionals. We were ranked fourth going in to our national tournament but it was canceled due to the virus. My knee is doing well and continuing to get stronger.
Fall of 2019:
This past May, I was playing in a basketball tournament with my select team and I tore my anterior cruciate ligament, ACL. This injury has taught me many lessons. Through this long rehab, I learned to trust God more fully and to work hard to accomplish my goals. This experience has developed my determination. I have always been very determined but tearing my ACL has increased my determination and desire to work hard. I immediately set a goal for myself to return to playing basketball six months after my surgery. Although I am only four months out from surgery and do not yet know whether I will succeed in returning at the end of November, I am still giving my best effort to rehab my knee. I know that on my own strength I will not be able to succeed and am daily relying on the Lord for strength.
Spring 2018:
I am a multi-sport high school athlete and have always been committed to work hard and compete. Running for the track team for three years helped me get quicker and faster; and playing soccer for 13 years has helped my footwork, quickness, and endurance. I believe that track and soccer have both helped me continue to improve in basketball. I started playing basketball in kindergarten and have aspired to play college basketball since the age of ten. As a freshman and sophomore, I was awarded first team all-region. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I sustained a quad strain. Although my stats were not as I had anticipated for my first year on varsity, I demonstrated strength and perseverance by continuing to play through the pain for the first half of the season until I rehabbed my leg with physical therapy. I have chosen to take a challenging course load in high school to prepare for college and God’s call on my life. I have aspired to achieve academic excellence and be the top in my class. I have a passion for children with special needs and plan to pursue an advanced degree in occupational therapy or physical therapy. I know that with my great work ethic and determination I am suitable to play basketball and achieve an advanced college degree.
