Personal Statement

My name is Alexis Watkins. I will be a Junior this school year 2014-2015 at Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach, VA.  I plan to attend a 4 year college or university and major in Criminal Justice. Unlike many of my team mates and opponents I have been playing basketball for only 2 years, my Freshman year in high school I played on the Junior Varsity team and my Sophmore year I played Varsity. A lot of people would say that I am at a disadvantage. I say its motivation and determination to work harder to be the best I can be.  With all the hard work and determination my dream is to play WNBA. I am excited about playing for my 1st AAU team "The Mid Eastern Dynasty Girls". I am learning a lot from my coaches. We are getting exposure through tournaments and NCAA certified events. I will include a link to my schedule. Although the season is almost over I will take with me what I have learned through out the season. And, I look forward to next year.  There may be a few things that make me different from other recruits. One would be I am coachable. I love learning about the game and I take what I learn and apply it to the court or in the game. The other is I am a team player. I always try to help my team members on the court and off the court. I depend on my team mates and I want my team mates to depend on me knowing that I will be there. This is only the beginning for me.
UPDATE: After much consideration and debate; I along with my family have decided to reclassify and continue my high school education at Atlantic Shores Christian School in Chesapeake, Va  This was not a easy decision, and many disagree with my choice.  However by reclassifying I have an added chance to improve my GPA and improve my game. Because I have only been playing since my freshman year in high school, I didn't feel that I was competitive enough. My skills needed improvement and my basketball IQ needed improvement. But most of all my GPA needed improvement. This is not me giving up, but I have a chance to become better.  I understand there is much debate regarding "reclassification" I know many disagree with my decision and that's OK but I ask that you respect my decision...
