I knew I was hooked after my first match playing beach volleyball on a hot humid July afternoon. I love the challenges, demands, and competition that happens when I play and train. While the physicality and never-seeing-the-same-play-twice are just of a few of the reasons I enjoy beach volleyball, it is also the teamwork that draws me to the sport.
I am a supportive partner and have learned how to quickly identify my partner’s strengths and highlight them when we play. Regularly playing with new partners has helped me learn how to use my calm temperament to be a successful leader and facilitate positive communication.
Currently, I travel to train with my coach, John Hyden (Hyden Beach), and take lessons locally with Mary Pat Rogers (MPWR) & Aaryn Lee (United Volleyball Club). I appreciate and respect my coaches. I know they have invested their time and energy to support my growth both as an athlete and individual. As a player, I am a logical thinker. I listen to what my coaches say, process it, and then work hard to accomplish it. I am also self-motivated, often asking for extra drills and ways to improve.
I love being active and am also a dual athlete, rowing for the high school team at Rocket City Row Crew. My dedication and desire to excel happens outside of sports too. Academically, I have maintained As throughout my high school courses, which include multiple honors classes and courses at a local college. I love learning and am looking forward to college. I feel that my academic success enhances my athletic performance.
Volunteering at cancer events is important to me, as my mother is a cancer survivor. I am also creative; I have volunteered as an art assistant to a local artist, and I'm currently teaching myself the drums. Plus, I am interested in film and cinematography which has led me to want to study film and psychology in college.
My grit, determination, and a strong work ethic are just a few of my attributes. I also try to be kind and compassionate. I believe my optimistic attitude and desire to be my best, as well as support my teammates to do their best, would make me a positive part of my future collegiate team.
