My sophomore year I broke the six-dive pool record at my high school Miss Porter’s, a record which stood for twelve years. This past season, I broke my own record and I am looking forward to doing this again in my final season at Miss Porter's School. This accomplishment has been the highlight of my rather short diving career as I am about to be a senior and started diving as a freshman, just three seasons ago. I feel that this achievement is a testament to my Ariel awareness and total development as an athlete. Part of my decision to attend an all-girls boarding school was to be able to focus my time and energy more closely on academics and athletics. The chance to become part of a tightly knit and hardworking diving team became an important factor and something that I found at Miss Porter’s. This is something for which I feel very fortunate and blessed. This year I have greatly improved my diving by joining a club team called Elite Diving which is based out of Wesleyan University. I have also been training at the University of Saint Joseph since September. I feel that having a more consistent practice schedule has allowed me to improve my diving immensely. Although my high school season has finished, I feel that there are some highlights that are important to mention. I placed 1st at six out of eight meets and 2nd place in my New England Championships. In the coming year, I plan to improve my diving and compete 3m with my club team.
As I think back on what has allowed me to get to this level of success, I cannot help but think about how my parents introduced me to gymnastics at a very early age (two) and encouraged me to begin competing at age five. Throughout my gymnastics career, I achieved many of my goals. I was named All-Around Vermont State Champion five times as well as qualifying for and placing in the Regional Championships each year I competed. Each Championship win was more rewarding than the previous, as I was competing at a higher level. When I retired from gymnastics as a level 9, diving became my new athletic passion. Without a doubt, gymnastics has served as the foundation for my rapid development and improvement as a competitive diver and serves me well as I continue to improve and develop my diving skills at a much higher level with each passing season.
As I look ahead to my future, I am looking for a program that challenges me and therefore allows me to improve both as a student and an athlete. I value schools for both their educational and athletic offerings. I believe that I have the talent, hard work ethic, grit and leadership skills to achieve and maintain a high performing student-athlete profile and schedule. Time management has been a very important and prominent skill in my life that I have developed as a result of my intense training in gymnastics and diving, as well as in the performing arts. In addition, I have been training in the circus arts as an aerialist and acrobat since the age of five. At age twelve, I auditioned and became part Vermont’s only all-youth performing circus, known as Circus Smirkus and spent the summer of 2014 traveling and performing throughout the Northeast in over 70 big top circus shows. This incredible touring experience led me to follow my circus dreams to Americas Got Talent in 2015. I feel that being apart of this television show opened my eyes to the many opportunities that the world has, but made me more focused on the dreams that I have as an athlete and a student. I have been able to maintain high grades throughout my schooling while simultaneously succeeding athletically. Before High School, I balanced performing arts, music, circus arts, gymnastics, and school for ten years. This has shaped my path to discovering who I am as an athlete and a person. Although the journey has been long and strenuous, I feel as though I have found my place in athletics. I am now a two-year captain of my diving team at Miss Porter's. My plan is to take my high school experiences in diving to the competitive level in a college environment where I will be able to combine my passion, discipline, motivation, and desire to achieve success at a high level. I am really looking forward to the journey ahead.
