I started diving in November of 2015 during my Sophomore year of high school. Before I began diving, I was a competitive gymnast for thirteen years. I had to end my gymnastics career because of a back injury. I knew I still wanted to flip, and put all of my gymnastics training to good use, so I began my new journey as a diver at Atlantic Coast Diving Jax. I've only been diving about 2 years, and I already have such a strong passion for it. I am always striving to do more!
I come to practice with a desire to work towards achieving my goals, everyday, putting 100% effort into every practice. I do private lessons once a week for an hour to learn new dives, and perfect the old ones. Some days we work on my dives in the belts, and other days we work in the water. In April 2016, I separated my shoulder, the week before the USA Diving Region 3 Championships. Even though I was very upset that I couldn't compete, I continued to work even harder to achieve my goals for this year (2017). I came in to each practice and worked on my strength and flexibility until I was able to get back on the board. Then, I worked hard to get my dives back and begin working on the new dives I need to increase my DD. I spent the 2017 summer in Tallahassee, FL working with John Lynch and the Tomahawk team. My coach, Courtney, was on maternity leave, so I took the opportunity to train at a great facility with another great coach.
I also take my school work very seriously. I was inducted into the National Honors Society in 2015, but am unfortunately not able to participate anymore because of the diving schedule. However, I continue to work exceptionally hard to maintain good grades. The balance of trying to juggle school, diving practice, and traveling time is very difficult. I travel two to three hours a day to and from practice. I train anywhere from two to five hours a day, Monday through Friday. Often times, we have training trips on the weekends so we can get some three meter and tower practice, as we do not have one to train on at any of our local facilities. Because of the travel and practice time required I did a high school/virtual school hybrid for my junior year. This year, I am excited to begin dual enrollment at St Johns River State College.
I would love to go to a college that has a strong Pre-Physical Therapy program or Athletic Training program. I love science and learning about the body. As an athlete, I've spent a great deal of time with physical therapists over the years, and I look forward to helping others heal.
I work best with coaches who are inspiring, fun, energetic, and patient. It is important to me that my coaches are just as excited about my goals, and my diving career as I am. I hope to have a coach who has experience coaching at the international level of competition, so that one day I can be competing at that level!
