I strive to balance my academic and athletic life the best I can. I’m excited to go into college because I will have more freedom to make my own choices.
I’ve had the unfortunate opportunity of having to sit out during sports many times due to injury. I had a stress fracture in my back this year (my junior year) and I wasn’t able to get up to my full potential that year. My goal was to break 200 in a 6 dive list, but I never achieved that because I was out for 5 weeks. Although this time was really tough for me when all I was able to do was watch my teammates dive. I still came to practice everyday to support my teammates and to hangout with my friends because I feel the most important thing about participating in athletics is your relationship with your team. During this injury rest, I really think it changed my mindset towards diving. Once my back healed and I was able to get back out on the water, I started to cherish the moments I got to dive, even the times I didn’t feel like going. I started to create a more positive mindset for myself and teammates. The bottom line is I believe these experiences I’ve had built character and changed my mindset, not just towards my diving career, but my life too.
