My name is Emma Casey, and I am a junior at Hauppauge High School. I was primarily a competitive gymnast until June of 2017 when I decided to concentrate primarily on diving. Prior to this I had been balancing the two sports. During this time, I have also been a relatively successful swimmer. I have attached a link to a few videos of my diving to this statement.
One of the reasons I gave up gymnastics was to be able to work with my dive coach, Zhihua Hu. My dive club is the New York Dive Club at Fordham University which is an hour commute, each way. With Coach Hu, I travel to China in August to train for five weeks in the Olympic facilities. This summer will be my second year participating in this trip. This past varsity season, after working with Coach Hu I rebroke my 11 dive High School record, broke the 6 dive school record twice, placed second at the Suffolk County Meet and qualified for the New York State Meet where I placed 16th overall, up from placing 30th the prior year. I also made the All-County, All-Long Island, and All-State Dive Teams and submitted my application for All-American consideration. I hope to continue this trend as I continue to work with Coach Hu and my team.
With Coach Hu, I attended the CRD Holiday Invitational meet, my first AAU diving meet, where I placed third in three-meter with a 342.00 and sixth on one-meter with a 341.95. My second meet was the Nassau County Mini Spring Dive Invitational. I scored a 338.55 on three-meter placing second. At Kimball Cup, I scored a 338.25 on three-meter and a 347.25 on one meter. The next meet I will be attending is the USA Region One meet in Buffalo, New York at the end of April.
Since working with Coach Hu for the past nine months, my skills have improved incredibly. My dedication to the sport is unmatched, and I am willing to put in the work and training necessary to improve. By the end of summer, hopefully, sooner, I am looking to add 205c and 305c to my list, which my coach thinks is entirely possible.
