Personal Statement

Hello! I’m Kaitlyn Blackmer,  a 1m and 3m springboard diver (with experience on 5, 7.5 and 10 meter platforms) from Pennsylvania.  I started out as a swimmer at 7, but transitioned to diving at 9.  Though I enjoyed swimming, there was something about diving, with the jumps, rotations and twists, that was exciting to me.  Recognizing I may be suited for something other than swimming, my swim coach suggested a switch from swimming to diving. Eager to try a new sport, I decided to start diving in 2014. I dove for 5 seasons with the Edgeworth Club Swim & Dive Team.

Over the course of the 9 years I have been diving, I’ve dedicated countless hours to developing as a diver. I took private diving lessons, attended out-of-state camps and trained with Sewickley Diving Academy, Pitt Aquatic Club and American Flyers Diving.  In addition, I’ve been a varsity letterman on my diving team all of my years at Quaker Valley High School and was honored to be considered for All American status in 2023.

As a senior looking ahead to attending college in the Fall of 2024, my desire to continue diving is stronger than ever. I am excited about the opportunity to enhance my skills under experienced college coaches and compete at higher levels. Through diving, I’ve learned the importance of commitment, time-management, and teamwork.  I gained not only physical strength but also mental resilience. College presents new opportunities for growth and development both academically and athletically. By joining a collegiate diving program, I hope to continue to develop as a diver and gain a family away from home who share my excitement for diving.
