I tried diving for the first time last year and immediately fell in love with it! It is definitely something I want to pursue in college. Although new to diving, I am an accomplished gymnast so transitioning to the diving board seemed easy for me. In my first season, I placed third at districts. In my second season, I went undefeated, broke an 18 year old school record (286.45) with a score of 292, won the PIAA D10 (AA) title, and finished 4th at States. I began gymnastics at the age of 4 and became a level 9 gymnast by age 12. At Nationals in 2016, I was the youngest level 9 gymnast in the state of Pennsylvania. I competed as a level 9 for 3 years until I entered high school and had to give it up because of the demanding schedule of playing 3 other varsity sports (volleyball, basketball, and softball). It was a very difficult decision for me to walk away from a sport that I loved. During my sophomore year, I decided to give up basketball and give diving a try. I loved it! It filled the void in my heart that gymnastics had left behind. I believe I am a great candidate for a college diving team because I am a fierce competitor with the drive and determination to be the best. I believe my intense work ethic sets me apart from other recruits. I love to set goals and will stop at nothing until I achieve them. I know that with my athleticism, positive attitude, hard work, and dedication , I will be a valuable asset to any diving program.
These characteristics have also served me well in my academics. Even with my rigorous sports schedule, my hard work and dedication to my studies has landed me on the merit honor roll every grading period and placed me in the top 10% of my class. In college, I plan to pursue a degree in Speech and Language Pathology. My mom is a pediatric speech pathologist who opened her own practice. I've been lucky enough to see her changing the lives of children everyday. This has definitely inspired me to follow in her footsteps so that I can carry on the wonderful work that she began so many years ago.
