Candace Dechant '10 Recruiting Profile

My name is Candace Dechant, and I am a 2010 Graduate from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am a consistent honors student, who finished top in most of my classes. I have played golf for over 6 years, but have only began competing in the last three years. Competition quickly exposed me to a multitude of opportunities with teams, coaches, camps and other tournaments. I have worked with different coaches and all have concluded that I have much potential and am very responsive to coaching. I am very driven and committed to achieving the best that I can be. When frustrated, I often find myself assessing my swing with my camera to find a solution. That commitment I am sure to display in a team atmosphere. Through other sports including Ringette, Basketball and Swimming, I have developed into a team player who is very aware of the interdependence and cooperation involved in team sports. It is my dream to attend a reputable college in the United States. To have access to coaches and facilities for a large portion of the year. I believe that the extended season would help expedite my development. I am open to schools in all regions of the United States. I would prefer a mid-sized to large school with high academic standards, and a strong Engineering program. Sports division would ideally range from division I to division II. My desired Major is BSc in Engineering, but I haven't narrowed down what type of Engineering I wish to specialize in. ** I am already registered in my first year of Engineering at my local University, the University of Alberta. If no offers come for the Fall of 2010 I will complete my first year at home, but wish to transfer to the United States for the Fall of 2011, and the rest of my education. While my realistic goal is to develop into a starting Athlete for my Collegiate team, my ultimate goal is to facilitate the growth of my golf game and education through an experience that would develop me as a person.
