Personal Statement

I began learning the basics of golf around age ten and, since then, have committed myself to playing longer courses. I am currently a junior on the varsity girl’s golf team at Providence High School, located in Burbank, California. This is the third year my high school has offered a girl’s golf team, and I am extremely honored to take part in the experience.

Prior to high school, I had not played in a team, club, or even in tournaments, so you can imagine that I was intimidated at first. Fortunately, being on this team has allowed me to develop new friendships and bond with people who share the same passion. I want my college experience to be similar in this regard.

Although I am all for golf, I am also very passionate about learning in general. I enjoy rigorous classes and will go out of my way to further my knowledge about specific topics. Currently, I am taking an honors class and several APs while maintaining a cumulative 4.55 GPA. In my search for colleges, I want to attend an institution that can provide me with strong academic resources and a good sense of community.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Walnut Tournament
  • 9/12/22 to 9/12/22
  • I shot an 89 in this tournament, the first of my sophomore year. I would consider this a great improvement from the score I finished with at the same event a year prior (95). The course was in somewhat decent condition, but it had been clear that the rough was outgrown, which made it slightly more difficult for playing conditions.
  • Camp/Event
  • La City Championships
  • 4/09/22 to 4/10/22
  • This two-day tournament was truly a worthwhile experience. I shot 94 the first day, which left room for improvement to score better on the second day. With a little perseverance, I was able to drop six strokes from one day to the next, shooting an 88 to conclude my participation in the tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • CIF Southern Section Regionals- Division 4
  • 10/25/21 to 10/25/21
  • I had a rough start during this tournament, with the morning fog making the holes invisible. However, I was able to turn my game around the last several holes and ended up scoring a 94. I held the lowest score on my school's team and tied for 13th place in the tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • Prep League Preliminaries
  • 10/19/21 to 10/19/21
  • The top players of my golf league were invited to play 18 holes to decide who would represent our league in the CIF individual tournament. I shot a 88 and tied for 11th place.
  • Camp/Event
  • Walnut Tournament
  • 10/04/21 to 10/04/21
  • I entered this shot-gun tournament with my high school team and ended up shooting a 95, the lowest score on my team. Unfortunately, my teammates and I were nowhere close to placing, but the experience made it worthwhile!
