My name is Jizelle Robledo and I'm a 5'4, 145 lb, 4 year Varsity Golfer. As a junior, I was a co-captain and helped lead the team to its third consecutive CIF playoff berth. Individually, I made all League honors for the third time and CIF Individual playoffs for the third time. I advanced to the CIF State finals with rounds of 71 at Los Robles, 81 at River Ridge, and 80 at Brookside in the championship. It was a record setting year and I aim to improve on it this season.
I stay sharp by working on my game at least 5 days a week year-round. 3 days on the course and two days on the range, putting green and short game area. 2 months ago I began strength training and I'm starting to see the benefits. My driver has gone from 220 to 240-260 yards. Irons have gained 10 to 15 yards across the board. I've been playing from 6,000 plus yards and I'm leaving myself eight and nine irons in on my approaches, making it a lot easier to score.
I will be the first person in my family to attend college. My parents have sacrificed so much to give me the opportunity to pursue my dreams. Both working multiple jobs 7 days a week to pay for my golf lessons, balls, clubs, and tournaments. Not being able to see me compete because they need to work. I know what it's like to struggle financially and how to get by with less than others. It has made me a strong person who is not scared of hard work or facing an uphill battle. I hope to be a role model to the younger kids in my family and show them that hard work pays off and you can succeed regardless of where you start.
I've learned a lot about myself playing golf these past 11 years. I play my best when paired with the best. I'm able to take my game to another level and rise to the level of my competition. It's hard to explain, it's just something that happens. I don't compete on the elite level tours but I'm able to hang with their players when paired together in our high school matches. The golf course doesn't care what tag is on your bag or what brand of clubs you use. Everyone is equal on a golf course and that's why I love this game. Nobody can ever take away all the hard work, sweat and tears that I've put in. I am strong physically and mentally and know I can compete at the highest level if given the opportunity. I always give 100% every time I step on the course and represent myself and my team with honor and pride.
Thank you for your time.
