Hi! I am Kate Montemayor and I will be a senior next fall at Long Beach Polytechnic High School. I was first introduced to golf at the age of two, and I have been so passionate about the sport, ever since. I have played serious, competitive golf for about 2 or 3 years, competing in organizations such as the Southern California Professional Golf Association (SCPGA), California Junior Golf (CJG), and the LA City Championships. I am also the starter and varsity golfer for my high school team, also being co-team captain since I was a freshman.
I believe I would be able to add to a strong team because of the way I never give up and am always working hard. My eyes are always on the prize, so I constantly make sure I am at least 1% better than I was the previous day. I have had rough rounds, which I now understand to be completely normal, but, rather than letting them push me down, I continued to work harder to improve. Through these obstacles, I always try to keep a positive mindset, I motivate myself to keep going, and I make sure to always rise to the challenge. Being co-team captain of my school's varsity team has also helped me develop into a strong, dedicated leader that can help guide a team throughout anything. I believe that I can give my all to a team and I would be able to dedicate my time and effort to building a stronger team.
Inside the classroom, I work hard and ensure to keep my grades up. I am a part of the National Society of High School Scholars and have earned multiple awards such as the Pursuit of Excellence Award, Principal's Honor Roll, and Honor Roll. Since freshman year, I was a First Team All Moore League golfer. I've also volunteered for local junior golf camps during the summer to help kids grow and develop in this amazing sport.
I'm looking for a college that is competitive both academically and athletically, and that can shape me into a tougher student and golfer. I am hoping to be able to play Division 1 Golf, but I am also open to Division 2 schools.
