Happy to post a personal beat of 38 today!
I am a proud high school three sport athlete and have helped bring home 4 school banners; 3 for golf and 1 for basketball.
I have grown up playing golf but began taking it seriously four years ago. My mindset changed in 8th grade when I knew I wanted to be part of the high school golf program. I stepped up my tournament play that summer to prepare for tryouts and was the only freshman to make the Varsity team, starting in third position.
As a sophomore, our entire team returned; we were undefeated in league and placed 2nd in sections. I was awarded 2nd team All Conference.
I returned to summer tournaments and was a key part of a repeated league title my junior year. Additionally, we won a cherished section title, the first in our schools history. I was again 2nd team all conference and accomplished a personal goal to break 90 on 18 holes.
I worked this past summer with a PGA coach to further define my game. I underwent a swing change that temporarily increased my scoring in summer tournament play. However, I feel more confident with my game and have begun to reap the benefits of seeing my score decrease again.
I've returned for my senior year as Captain and playing number 1 position. I played four 9 hole matches this week with the following scores: 45, 45, 46, 45. My goal this year is to break 40 and to be on 1st team all conference.
I believe what makes me different is that I am not a one sport girl. I have played team sports which has taught me to be a good leader as well as how to be a respectful follower. Different from team sports, golf has taught me self awareness as well as how to be my own leader. As a player, I am well respected by my coaches and teammates because I take corrections when needed, while enjoying myself in appropriate times.
My goal is to play golf in college...period. I know I have barely tapped into my potential as a golfer and that is what makes me a great candidate for your college program. I understand the commitment because I have worked out and practiced at least one sport every day for the past 10 years. My long term goal is to be a high school teacher and coach; it is important to me to give back to my community and inspire the next generation of athletes, as my coaches have done for me.
This past year, I have chosen to scale back from my other two sports, basketball and soccer, to focus on golf. While my scores aren't where I'd like them to be, I'm working hard on improving them. Keep your eye on me!
