Personal Statement

Hello Coaches,

Golfing for nearly half my life since the age of 9, it has become a passion and major part of my life. My name is Amber Timmer, I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, but now live in San Diego, California. I am 16 years old and a sophomore at Mt. Carmel High School. The opportunity for me to play collegiate golf is one of my biggest aspirations because I would be able to continue to do what I love doing which is playing the sport I love that keeps me focused and motivated while receiving a higher education. I believe that the collegiate experience will help challenge me to achieve even higher goals for myself both on and off the course. I believe that my outlook, attitude and drive set me apart from other athletes. I always strive to create a positive environment for my teammates by encourage them, celebrating their achievements with them, and always displaying good sportsmanship, which also motivates me to keep a positive mindset toward myself and pushes me harder to succeed.

During the regular school season, I am either practicing or playing a round of  golf every day. During tournament season, I practice 3 to 4 days a week depending on my schedule and amount of schoolwork. I also work out at least once a week. Although I have not determined what I want to major yet in college, I am very interested in mathematics and criminal justice.

The ability to have a good connection with both the team and the coaches is very important to me. I want my skills to prove that I deserve a starting spot. I would enjoy traveling around the country to play. Staying on top of my academics would be equally as important to me as making sure my golf game is successful. During freshman year, I maintained a 4.0 GPA. As a sophomore this year, I have managed to maintain a 4.25 GPA succeeding in all of my classes, including AP European History. Freshman year I was awarded the title of Valley League Player of the Year. Both years I was the Valley League Champion (NCCA).

I hope you will consider me to be on a collegiate team based on my merit. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Amber Timmer
