I have had a passion for golf since I started playing at six years old. The game to me is as much mental as it is technical. Although I practice on my swing, putt, and pitching skills, I have appreciated how important it is to have a strong mental attitude. I have participated in the VISION54 Program in Arizona every winter for the past two years. VISION54 is a course that teaches the “Human Skills” to complement my technique. Its core intention is to help golfers with their mental and human skills through course training and coaching. This has really benefited my game because I have practiced the mental techniques during tournaments. For example, in one of my school matches, I scored a double bogey on the first hole, but, I composed myself by using the techniques that I learned and finished the round tying for the best score.
Although golf is an individual sport, I thoroughly enjoy playing on a team. Qualifying to compete in CIF my sophomore year has definitely been the highlight of my high school career so far. I feel like I grew as an athlete and leader from my freshman to sophomore year. My skills have been recognized when I started as the number 7 of 9 players as a freshman, moved up to number 2 this year, and should start as number 1 in the fall. Since playing in tournaments I have learned that I am more resilient and determined than I expected. I am not afraid to fail because I know that I can redeem myself in the next hole. I’m optimistic that my leadership and technical skills will continue to grow. With this comes a responsibility to remained focused and to trust my skills whether I hit the best shot or not.
I am looking forward to a college career that balances both academic and athletic experiences. My positive and encouraging attitude would be a great addition to your team.
