Personal Statement

I am Maryn Harlow,  a 17 year old junior golfer. I’m about to start my senior year at Loveland High School in Loveland, Colorado. I have a very strong desire to achieve my goals of  playing golf at the collegiate level. I have worked with my swing coach Derek Cordova for the last 5 years. He helped me in the beginning when I couldn’t break 100 to now shooting in the 70’s.   I have spent a lot of time out at the course preparing for each and every tournament.

A lot of success came during my Sophomore and Junior high school golf seasons. My Sophomore year I helped my team win the Colorado Girls 5A State Championship. My Junior season we finished runner up and I was named 2nd team all state. I ended my season with a  78.2 scoring average.

I have played in several AJGA qualifiers and  events in Colorado, South Dakota, and Texas this past year. I played the majority of my Summer in Colorado Golf Association (CGA) tournaments and Colorado PGA Junior Golf (COPGA) tournaments. I ended up taking 8th place at a COPGA Major this past July  shooting 84,78,79 on a par 72 course with a 152 slope. I played a match play tournament in June at Devils Tower Golf Club Wyoming. I placed second in the first flight group, winning my  1st match 1 up through 18 holes. I won my second match coming from behind, 3 down with 5 to play to win 1 up on the 18th.  I lost the finals match 1 down through 19 holes. I am a determined individual with a lot of goals for my future not only athletically but academically.

I have had a lot of success in the classroom maintaining a 3.89 GPA and taking several honors classes and AP classes. I am  a proud member of The National Honor Society. Golf is not my only extra curricular activity. I have played on my school's  basketball team all throughout my high school career and been on Varsity since my Sophomore year. Living in Colorado all my life I also entertain myself with various recreational activities such as skiing, hunting, and ATVing.

I strongly believe I am a diamond in the rough. With the right coach to guide me through my college years, I can continue to show drastic improvements in my game.  With the right coaching, I expect I can post a scoring average in the mid to low 70’s.

We went back out after 1.5 hour rain delay. I started to struggle due to the long break and wet Bermuda grass. At the end of the day I shot an 87 and was sitting in 25th place. There was only a 10 stroke difference between 1st and last place. The second day I shot a 41 on the front and a 46 on the back. After swinging back and forth between third and fourth throughout the whole day, I only missed third place by 1 stroke but ended up shooting the same score as the 2nd place girl. I am very pleased also that I played so well in blistering 100 degree heat and powerful winds of 15 mph. Twin Peaks played 5849 yds., 123 slope, and was a par 70. Instagram- @marynharlow_golf

  • Today I was ecstatic with my performance. I placed solo 3rd out of 28 competitors with a +7 over par (79 all time personal best) finishing 1 shot back of 2nd place and 3 shots back of 1st place. This was by far my best 18 hole round as well as my best 9 hole score (+2, 38) on the back 9. I was in first place for 13 holes until I stumbled for a couple of difficult par 5's. I was able to mentally reset myself and get back on the par train and finish strong. Longest Tee shots of the day: Driver-242 yards & 240 yards; 5 wood 230 yards. I hit a personal best 11/14 Fairways and also personal best 14/18 GIR. I was not satisfied with my performance at last week's tournament so I sought out an on-the-course playing lesson from a pro at Golf Academy at Harmony Club. I needed help to fix some mistakes and get back out there. It worked! Today Thorncreek played 5,649 yards, 128 slope, and par 72. Instagram @marynharlow_golf

  • Today presented brutal conditions including winds at 15 gusting 30 and temperatures in the triple digits. I maintained a 4th place position until holes 15 and 16, where I made some critical mistakes and made some poor course management decisions. I shot a +29 over par (100) and placed T-9 overall out of 26 girls. The first place score was an 80. Kings Deer played 5596 yds., 140 slope, and a par 71. instragram @marynharlow_golf

  • Over the duration of both days, the wind was 15-20 mph and temps in the triple digits. The lower elevation of Texas coming from Colorado and humidity effected my distances but eventually I got them more dialed in. I shot a +25 over par (97) the first day and a +20 (92) the second. I placed last overall for the tournament for the first time in a long time, however considering elevation change, humidity, and also the higher level of competition I was pleased with my 5 shot improvement on day 2 and actually out played 5 girls. I feel if it had been a 3 day tournament I might have made a run up the leaderboard. TPC San Antonio played 5514 yds., 126 slope, and a par 72. instagram @marynharlow_golf

  • I was very satisfied with my performance today. I placed solo 3rd out of 23 competitors with a +15 over par (87) finishing 1 shot back of 2nd place and 3 shots back of 1st place. Throughout the entire tournament I was able to maintain a top three position even leading in 1st place for several holes. Today Highland Hills played approximately 5,700 yards, 126 slope, and par 72.
