Jocelyn Barrus '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Jocelyn Barrus and I am currently 17 years old and in my incoming senior year at Legend High School (5A). Before I started playing golf in 8th grade I was in Dance, Basketball, and Theater.  Along with the help my father brings, I am fortunate enough to take lessons from Scott Walters who fine-tunes my golf game and have been lucky enough to play on the varsity golf team at Legend all three years. My favorite part of golf seasons (high school and summer) is the friendships I have made in each round. In particular, I enjoy the competition as it pushes me to want to compete at increasingly higher levels. Another favorite part is waking up early to go to the range in the summer so I can practice with my Dad before he goes to work.  

Considering how well I hit the ball and score in practice, I have not achieved what I want to achieve in my tournaments. As such, my plan is to have dedicated and focused practice sessions, increase my physical ability through exercise and work on the mental approach to golf as it applies to tournament play.  My hope is to align myself with a college that can help me achieve these things, and by so doing contribute to the success of the team. 

 In school, I have a 3.675 GPA and have had the honor roll for the past three years, and got 1170 on the SAT. Along with academics I am in Student Government, NSHS (National Spanish Honor Society), and play the piano. After high school, I plan on pursuing a degree in Business.
