Hello, my name is Kinsey Smith and I am from Windsor, Colorado. I will be going into my senior year of high school this year at Windsor High School. I have been playing golf ever since I was little, and really started to fall in love with the sport in middle school. I began playing my first tournaments as an 8th grader and made the Varsity golf team as a freshman, eventually making it to the State Championships with my team that year, as well as the following two years. Playing high school golf is really what sparked my interest in playing college golf, as it became such a big part of my life. I found myself going to the golf course just about every day in the summer and when the weather allowed me to during the school year, I was there every day after school. Since I spend so much time playing golf and enjoy it so much, I feel that it is the right choice for me to continue to play at the college level. I have seen drastic improvement in my game over the past couple of years and am beginning to see myself with the potential to be a successful college athlete.
As a college athlete, I will make a great addition to the program I participate in because of my leadership skills, positive attitude, and dedication. I have always considered myself hardworking and dedicated in everything I do, whether that is school, sports, volunteering, or my other activities. I also have a positive attitude most of the time and use that optimism to build both myself and others up, especially in difficult circumstances. In addition to that, I always try my best to act as a leader and a helping hand to those around me. If I can be a role model to someone or help guide them through something, I am happy to do it. On a golf team, these attributes are very beneficial because the sport is not only hard mechanics-wise but also mentally. Dedication to stick with it during the tough times, a positive attitude, and the leadership skills required to help another person have the same are very important in the game of golf.
In college, I am not only looking for a golf team that I feel will help me realize my potential as an athlete, but a school that I feel comfortable in and that will serve my academic desires as well. After all, I do plan on going to college for schooling, not just sports. I am interested in studying in the marketing field, with a minor in communications if possible. I have always focused on school before sports and my grades are something that I take pride in. That being said, if I get the chance to play golf in college, I will not be any less committed to the team and the sport because of my academics. I would prefer to stay as close to my home state of Colorado as possible. I do not have a whole lot of preference regarding school size and location (urban, suburban, etc.), as I can see myself enjoying my college experience in small or large schools in either cities or more rural environments. The most important thing about finding a college for me is finding a balance. I want to be able to know that the academic, team, and student life environments are going to help me be both happy and successful in my college endeavors.
