Hi, my name is Bailey Baio, but I go by “BB”. I am in the graduating class of 2026. I have been playing golf since I was 3.5 years old, and started doing tournaments when I was 8. I got into the game of golf because my dad would take me onto the course, and I would hit the ball, and go play in a sand trap. After a few months I began to hit the ball pretty well for a 4-year-old. I also like to ski, and swim (I was on my school's swim team for 6 years). I also did dance and musical theatre for a long time.
For the first semester of my freshman year, I was on the varsity golf team at Oaks Christian School in LA playing every tournament. My team shot the lowest round in OCS history, more than once. My score was even par that day. I also won the Delphic League tournament in 8th grade for best individual middle school girl’s golfer.
In summer of 2021 I came to IMG for camp. My first week there the head of golf asked my parents if they would let me board and train full-time at the academy. The reason was my ability and how open I was to instruction.
It is important for me to succeed in golf, my academic studies, my faith, and as a young adult. Although golf is an individual sport, it is important to me to be part of a team and contribute and hopefully win a few championships. If I fail, I hope to walk away having learned more and improve my game of golf. I wish to be part of a college women's golf team, where we all build each other up, and encourage each other. If a teammate misses a cut, I still want to encourage them, and if I happened to be the one getting cut, I hope I have teammates and coaches to encourage me.
I was born five weeks early, and I lost my twin, I was flagged with a rare disorder called GA-1 (Glutaric Acidemia Type 1: where a person cannot digest protein and it sends, a message to the brain causing brain damage) after 3 months of testing, the doctors found out I was a false positive. This led my mom to create a non-profit which is named after me, to help kids with not only GA-1 but with any type of organic acidemia disorders. To give back for what a great life God has given me to living a happy, healthy life, every Sunday, unless I have a tournament, I go to my church and help kids with special needs, I am their buddy, and help them with Bible crafts, and learning about the word of God. I also help my mom with her foundation, the Bailey Baio Angel Foundation. Every year we have a golf tournament and auction to raise money to support the children in our foundation. When I grow up it doesn’t matter what career I will have, I will always have the foundation and help run it and to give back, for what I could have had.
For my second semester, I transferred to IMG Academy for both academics and golf as the head of the department asked me to stay and train for golf full-time. I feel that I have learned a lot this past semester at IMG and have greatly improved my golf game both mentally and physically. I also feel my academic studies have improved as I maintained a 3.95 GPA with honors classes. This is a great success for me as I have ADHD and Dyslexia. My parents support me, (I feel I’m very lucky to have supportive parents). We moved across the country from California to Florida so I can attend IMG and still live with my family and try to achieve my dream of being a professional golfer. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement, I hope to hear from you soon.
Fondly,
Bailey “BB” Baio
