Dear Coach,
Thank you for considering me for your college team.
I am currently a 9th grader on the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Golf Team, and I'm a GT/AP student with a 4.6 average weighted GPA. I would love to play D1 or D2 golf in college and compete against tough players, because I’ve always loved a challenge and being the underdog. I train with Justin Hicks, PGA, at the Don Law Golf Academy in Boca Raton, Florida
I believe in hard work and being a balanced person. My mom is a Clinical Psychologist and has worked with me on being mindful and managing performance anxiety. I competed in gymnastics from third grade until this summer, which improved my core strength, cardio, and endurance. I started the First Tee classes at age six, which taught me about core values, especially integrity, confidence, and perseverance. I’m also on the Leadership Committee of the Girls Golf program of Miami, where we plan activities to engage girls in golf.
My career goal is to be an Orthopedic Doctor specializing in Sports Medicine. I am looking for a competitive college with an excellent pre-med program where I can major in biology, biochemistry, physiology, or kinesiology before going to med school.
I'm a superior candidate for a college team, because I know how to balance sports with my studies. Being an AP student sets me apart from other candidates, because I excel at both academics and golf. I'm a positive person, a leader, and a hard worker. I have grit and know how to stay motivated, which I believe is crucial on a golf team.
Sincerely,
Sophie M. Alcala-Marks
