Hello! My name is Lily Walsh and I am a Junior at American Heritage in Plantation, Fl. We recently moved from Manhasset, NY where I played on the Manhasset High School team my sophomore year. Throughout my life, I have had many changes. However, one thing that has stayed consistent is my love for golf. Ever since I was 5 years old, I loved getting out on the course and playing against my friends and family. I love how calming it is to play golf, and how any person can pick up a set of clubs and have fun. Although I love golf, I never played competitively until my sophomore year. During the 2020-2021 school year, I competed for the first time on the Girls Varsity Golf team and helped my team make counties by individually qualifying. In the final match, I played well enough to help my team finish 3rd in counties and my two-day score would have been good enough to finish 21st . County’s was last spring, and currently with the help of my coach Dolph Roder, I improved from shooting from the mid-90s to shooting in the low 80s to high 70s for 18 holes. My goal is to be consistently in the high 70s by next fall which my coach feels is possible as I continue to improve. Starting in March, I will begin playing tournaments on the junior pga tour in Florida. Other than golf, I also like to stay active in my school community. At Manhasset, I was part of three clubs (Key Club, STAR club, and Yearbook Club), and four honor societies (Social Studies, English, Spanish, and National Honor Society). I was also a senator and a secretary for the Yearbook Club. Furthermore, I am currently taking three rigorous courses: AP Language and Composition, AP US History, and PreAP Spanish. I did community service on Mondays for Adventures in Learning, which is a place that tutors elementary school students. Finally, I also love to sing. I was part of two vocal groups, Women’s Chorus and Vocal Jazz. I am a little bit shy when it comes to my singing, however, I am trying to get better at it because for me it is an amazing way to get rid of stress. I currently have a 4.08 unweighted GPA, and a 4.16 weighted GPA. Overall, I love to challenge myself and give myself new challenges to overcome because I love to grow as a person. I believe you only learn through your experiences, so I feel that it is very important to stay active in the community because it gives me more opportunities to improve my social skills. I am not afraid of a conversation, however, there is always room for improvement. Overall, I am a very determined, empathetic, understanding, and compassionate person, and I put a lot of effort into everything I do, especially golf.
