My name is Camryn Burns and I am currently a sophomore at Highland High School. I first picked up a set of clubs during Summer of 2018, but spent all Summer at the driving range receiving lessons from a PGA professional weekly. I didn't play on a course until Spring of 2019, a few months before my freshmen year. Freshmen year I had an average being in the upper 60s (9 holes), while being in the 120s for 18 holes. In just a year, I cut off about 15 strokes for my 9 hole average and approximately 20+ for 18 holes. In a tournament I played in during my sophomore year, I placed 5th out of over 100 girls. Recently, I placed 3rd out 5 girls in a tournament, while I was the youngest one. 2021 Highland Country Club Women’s Junior Champion and 1st place in HCC Jr/Adult Tournament. 2020 JV captain.
I continue to go to the course whenever I can and the weather allows me too. I would always stay after practice during my 2020 season and try to play as many holes as possible until dark. I'm continuously trying to go to the driving range and receive lessons 2-4 times a month from PGA professional, Dan Polites. When it is finally warm enough to play and at the beginning of my high school golf season, I make goals for myself and I am determined to reach them. Sophomore year my goals for my high school season was to break 50 (9 holes) and 100 (18 holes). I reached both of these and continuously shoot under 50/100 almost every time I play. I played JV all my freshman year and part of my sophomore year. Sadly, I was quarantined towards the end of the season and returned to only having 1 match and a single tournament left. I was brought up to varsity just before this occurred. I can hit my drives all the way up to 260 yds, while I can hit my irons a maximum of around 180 yds, depending on the club. I currently have a 9 hole average of 42, and decreasing more and more month by month
When it comes to education, I'm the same way I am with golf in some ways. Freshman year, I received High Honor Roll and currently take almost all AP and/or honors classes. I set goals and will everything in my power to reach said goals. I would love to play for a school with a medical program and a wonderful golf program.
