I'm Sophia Kay, a 2025 graduate at Logansport Community High School. I remember from a young age I would go with my family to play golf recreationally and thoroughly enjoyed it. Around two and a half years ago I decided I wanted to play golf competatively.
My freshman year I landed a spot as the #3 golfer on the varsity team, which was quite nerve wracking at first considering I had somewhat just started competitively playing. I had a rough start score wise, shooting an average in the high 90s or even low 100s. But as the year went on, I saw that number slowly start to drop. We had a strong team, placing second in our NCC tournament and winning sectionals for the first time in 29 years at Logansport. By the time we went to sectionals, I was shooting in the mid to low 90s.
This year I again played the #3 spot on varsity. We had a really strong season as a team again, being ranked in the top 20 teams in Indiana. Last year I missed All Conference by one stroke, which as you could imagine really sucked. I made it a goal this year to achieve All Conference and that's exactly what I did. My team also won our conference tournament and placed 3rd in sectionals, advancing to regionals for the second year in a row.
Off the golf course, I'm also involved in cheerleading, tennis, Key Club, and managing our gymnastics team. I love being outside, especially at the lake with friends and family. I'm currently taking all Honors classes, and have a weighted GPA above 4.0. Currently, I'm thinking of going to college to study something in forensics. I look forward to the future in my athletic and academic career.
