Personal Statement
At an early age, I have always found it fascinating not only how a lawyer and judge conduct a court session but also how The society functions based on the legislation and constitution established centuries ago. It has always been my passion to be a lawyer ever since I was six years old. I read books on how Singapore gained independence under the guidance of the late first Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, to maintain order through tumultuous times and progressively build the nation. His works to uphold justice and harmony in the society have motivated me to understand law. To date, I have been reading various law books and autobiographies. These readings inspire me to strive for my one and only goal to be a lawyer.
In order to gain an insight into the society, I volunteer at the 'Meet the People Session' (MPS) of Bukit Gombak Constituency held by the Member of Parliament(MP), Ms. Low Yen Ling,(Chua Chu Kang GRC and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Education) in Singapore during my summer vacations for four years. I listened to the residents and drafted letters to the relevant statutory departments concerning issues such as monetary and health problems, housing matters, etc. and the experience has let me have my skills in writing, interpreting, analyzing, and resolving different circumstances and situations. In particular, this has tremendously improved not only communication skills but also built up my self-confidence and enhanced my public relationship to work in the multi-racial. The work helps me to know the righteousness and process of how the legislation and constitution of law function in the society.
Apart from this, my experience has also extended to volunteer at Science Center, Singapore. I interact with various people from different cultures and ages and do not shy away from approaching strangers. Ever since, I was eager to put my capabilities to the test and explore my limits. By the time I reached 16, I found a place called 'Senses' in Dubai to spend every weekend to look after autistic and handicapped children. My knowledge and ability to handle a myriad of people at different occasions and situations have been greatly been refined.
In school, I was a mentor in academics and a shadow teacher in various subjects for 10 years as well as a Shadow Academic Quality Controller(AQC) to help in monitoring the academic standards of the class. Besides that, I participated in the Inter-Choueifat schools' music competitions as a violin player in the orchestra and won first place for 3 consecutive years. I have also won a bronze medal for table tennis at grade 10 during the schools' competition. Therefore, these vast school activities have enabled me to act, counteract and resolve obstacles to achieve success. Similarly, for the last two years (Grade 10 and 11), I have been appointed as the Head of Social Responsibility Department. I have led the team to achieve the very first charity drive(held by His Highness and Excellency, Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum) drive by our school to donate more than one thousand boxes to needy children based in less developed countries. The goal of this department is to raise awareness from epidemics to pollution and even moral education in school. The role I played in the department strengthened my leadership, counselling, organising and planning, problem solving, critical thinking, recognizing talents and time management. Currently I am the head for the Yearbook committee and
My other interests and hobbies are playing the violin and piano, ballet as well as sports like tennis and golf, etc. I have won second place for a string competition at the Centre for Musical Arts in Dubai in 2016 and took part in golf competitions. All these involvement in competitions has helped me to improve my stamina and stability to cope with pressure.
I am aware of the challenges ahead of being a lawyer, and I would definitely put forth all my knowledge, skills and efforts in my next step of career path.
