Personal Statement
I am currently looking for an educational establishment where I can combine a high level of academic education with high level of golf training and competition opportunities.
In my below statement I present those elements that, I believe, provide a snapshot of my strength as candidate for such an academic and athletic environment. My academic interests are in the area of economics and/or law. My core high school courses are maths, economics, biology, political sciences, history, geography and philosophy. Part of the course subjects are taken in English and part in French. In addition, I learn Spanish and Italian while I can also speak Greek. In terms of academic records, I belong to the equivalent of GPA above 3.5.
Ever since I was four and a half years old I knew I wanted to play golf. It is a simple story of ‘love at first sight’. 12 playing golf years after, few thousand hours in the range and the course, in local, national and international tournaments and already a member of the Greek Golf Ladies National Team I can say that every moment was more than worth it.
For me golf is not only a sport. It is a magnificent universe; with people in so many different roles from the starters and the green keepers to my caddies and pros, the places, the nature surrounding us and the need to preserve it and respect it, the ideas, the etiquette, the ethical framework, the overflowing feelings of competition, the team spirit, the skill acquisition, the need for thinking, planning and managing, and increasingly the use of digital technology and data analytics .
Due to my father’s job, I lived, travelled and played golf in many places around the world. Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and USA. This was not always an easy process; golf helped me to find purpose, adjust, integrate. To be cosmopolitan but with continuous effort for respect and understanding of the diversity in the world surrounding us. From organising junior tournaments together with my parents for kids and caddies in Kenya to being an assistant coach to the Barbados Paraolympics golf team for golf, golf taught me many things about life. Real life and leadership skills, and primarily that golf is a community which you have to support, share victories, privileges and achievements and from while sometimes you receive sympathy and encouragement, but other times you simply don’t and you have to move on with grace.
I also like to practice the violin, sailing and I also played football in our local club.
