Personal Statement
My name is Grace Williams and I am 15 years old. I live on the Gold Coast in the state of Queensland, Australia. I began playing golf when I was 12 years old and went to a lesson with a friend. My friend stopped playing but I found that I was really enjoying it. Three years on and I love my sport and I've set my goals to be successful in golf and secure a Collegiate Scholarship in the USA and to play the LPGA tour. One of the things I love to see is people's reactions when I tell them that I play golf. Usually they are shocked and because it's unusual to hear of a young girl saying she plays golf it makes me work harder to achieve my goals.
Academically in Australia we work on a system of 5 grades A to E, we don't have GPA's. An expected age appropriate grade is a C. In our final two years of High School (Year 11 and 12) we enter a system in which students attain an OP or Ranking and this determines their entry into a University course. I will enter the first of my Senior two years in 2017 and at this point (Year 10) my average grade is between a B and high C's. Whilst I want to play golf professionally as my career, I realise that an academic qualification is also necessary as life is never static. I have determined the profession I want to follow, which is Law and I understand that I need to raise my current grades and I will strive to improve my current grades during my final 3 years of school.
I have been involved in sports since I was 5 years old playing Netball right up until I changed to golf. I have also had 5 years of Speech and Drama lessons and competitions. Both of these long term commitments have given me the opportunity to develop a range of leadership, team and personal skills upon which I can draw to help me succeed in life. Skills such as active listening, problem-solving, sharing, using resources effectively, realism, planning/organisation, prioritization, preparation, practice/practise, constructive feedback and reflection, evaluation, adaption and goal setting as well as many others.
As a sportsman entering the Senior years of schooling and moving towards adulthood I know that a balance between study, sport and family/friends is important to maintain a balanced lifestyle where I gain personal achievement, satisfaction and fun on many different levels. This balance will help me succeed through good and not so good times.
When I'm not playing golf or studying you can find me hanging out with my friends, playing with my dogs, watching movies, writing story's or down the beach.
