**** NEW*** I just wanted to update everyone on my progress this summer. After having to sit out most of June recovering from Mono, I began July 15th working out with my swing coach and trainer. I played in two events to see what I needed to work on, shooting 88 and 83 and qualified for the end of the year Tour Championship. The next week I played in the KJGF Tour Championship and shot an 84 at the Big Springs Country Club in Louisville, Ky to take 2nd place in my division. I hit 12 out of 14 fairways, and had 29 total putts. Overall for the summer I entered in 6 PGA events, winning 4 and was runner-up in the other two.
- On July 23, 2013, at a Kentucky PGA Event, I shot a 79 at Juniper Hills in Frankfort, Ky. I hit 12 of 14 fairways and had 28 putts for the day to capture first place in my division. My short game was on target and I hit the pin 3 times today from off the green. As you can see from my scores, I am slowly building my stamina and returning to playing form with the help of my trainer and swing coach. My first high school tournament will be August 3 so I will update my profile as I begin to play more. NEW TOURNAMENTS:
- July 25, 2013, Kentucky PGA Event at Kearney Hills Links course in Lexington KY shot 78. Hit 13 of 14 fairways, 13 out of 18 greens in regulation and had 30 putts for the day.
- August 5, 2013, first High School Tournament. After working out with trainer and swing coach two times this week shot 82 at Glasgow Country Club form 5825 yards. Hit 12 out of 14 fairways, and 32 putts on the day and on front hit 8 out of 9 greens in regulation. Shot 39 on front and mono took over on hilly back 9. Will rework schedule this week to keep more energy for back 9.
- We didn't play in a tournament this weekend. Played a practice round at Bowling Green Country Club where we play in 2 weeks and site of the state tournament. Next Tournament is 8-17-13 in Fort Knox, KY. Still working with swing coach and light workouts with trainer.
- 8-17-13 Fort Knox, KY. Due to being very tired since school started was not able to work out much this week. However, did hit 11 out of 14 fairways and had 32 total putts. Only hit 8 greens in regulation today.
- 8-24-13 Kentucky Invitational, Jamestown KY. Had a great workout week and started off strong today. Had par on the first 7 of 9 holes and was on track to finish in upper 70's and got really tired on last 4 holes. I don't play bad, but my ball will not go the normal distance. But was able to play 14 strong holes today!!! Ended up 83 for the day. However did hit 12 of 14 fairways and had 36 putts. But hit 11 greens in regulation today. Distance and strength are FINALLY coming back!
- 8-31-13 June Hilen Invitational, Juniper Hills, Frankfort, KY. Great round today until lightening and storms canceled the tournament after 13 holes. Through 13 holes, I was 5 over with a par 5 and 2 par three's in front of me!! Drives were almost back to normal length and I was either on the green in regulation or on the fringe of most holes in 2. On #12, a 480 yard par 5, I was just short of the green in 2 today. I was at 19 puts and had hit 10 fairways when we were pulled off the course for a second time and the tournament was canceled. I am still feeling stronger and not as tired each week. My scores and statistics are improving each week as I am able to get on the course more often and work with my swing coach and trainer.
- 9-7-13 Bowling Green County Club, Bowling Green, KY. Preview for State Tournament. TOP 20 FINISH!! Shot an 82 today, but finished in the top twenty of 120 girls on course. Hit 11 fairways, had 28 putts today and hit 13 GIR. Had two crazy holes where my short game cost me 5 strokes. I will continue to work this week to improve my over all game as I continue to get stronger.
- 9-14-13 Hurstbourne Country Club, Louisville, KY. TOP 25 finish out of 110 players. Had 30 putts today, hit 10 fairways and had 9 GIR. Carried my bag for the last 9 holes for the first time since February. Taking longer than I thought to get fully back, but short game touch around the green is finally starting to come back. Working 3 hours each day (2 with swing coach and 1 at high school practice) to get my entire game back before region and state in two weeks!!
- 9-21-13 Henry Clay Invitational, Lakeside, Lexington, KY. Top 15 finish!! Played from 5850 today and with wind and wet conditions coach said played more like 6000. Shot 86 for the day, had 30 putts, hit 10 fairways and hit 12 GIR. Best news of the day was I carried my bag for 13 holes today!! Was tired after, but I am getting stronger each week!!
- 9-30-13 State regional - Danville Country Club, Danville, KY, 5604 yards. Top 9 finish today!!! I shot an 83 from 5685 yards but was 9th overall in the region and WE ARE GOING BACK TO STATE FOR THE 4TH TIME! I was 1 under through 8 holes and three over after 13 holes, but I had problems with my driver at the end of the round. My short game is finally back and hit the pin several times from the fringe yesterday but they would not fall and I was within 15 feet or closer to the hole from the fairway yesterday. The last piece of the puzzle is getting all my strength back to keep my driver consistent for the entire round. The front nine was dead in the center of the fairway and I pushed a few right and left towards the end. But I have 10 days before state to get stronger!! 32 total putts and hit 14 GIR.
- 10-11-13 & 10-12-13. Bowling Green Country Club, Bowling Green KY. FINISHED THIRD IN THE STATE!! Not my best rounds of the year, but my team finishes 3rd out of 200 teams in the state. After averaging 31 putts for the year, my putter left me for two days and I was 10 strokes over that. (I had 28 putts on same course 3 weeks ago) I did hit 11 out of 14 fairways each day and hit 12 GIR day one and 13 GIR on day two. So overall stats were not bad except for putting, but short game has evolved all year long as my physical condition improves. I am going to take a couple of weeks off to try and get fully back in shape prior to playing again (I played at about 75% all year), but am already looking at tournaments where I can play as an individual on the AJGA, Golfweek, Hurricane, Plantation and the Top 50 Junior Golf Tours this fall and spring. I will update the events as I begin to play again.
My name is Meg Mills and I am a 2014 graduate from Lexington, Kentucky. Since I started playing golf as an 8th grader, I will compete successfully in high school and competitive golf tournaments throughout the country in order to use them as a stepping stone to play at the college level. I am an honor roll student and take AP English, AP Psychology and AP US Government and Physics. I carry a 3.925 GPA and want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and on the golf course. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match. During my Junior High School Season, I had low rounds of 76, 77, 78 and 80. I also had rounds of 82, 83 and 84. Since I did not start golf until my 8th grade year, I have worked hard with the help of my swing and high school coaches, to take 5 -6 strokes off my game each year. I will work hard over the next few years to continue this trend. While lowering my score this past year, I was also able to minimizing shooting high scores that would hurt my team. Due to this fact I played #1 or #2 the entire season and played in the #1 position for our team at the state tournament. At the Purdue Golf Camp, I won the last day tournament for all girls shooting an 80 on the final day. During the past two years I have played in over 40 events on the Plantation, Golf Week, Kentucky PGA and the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation tours to further my ability to play at the college level.
