Personal Statement

I have always played golf with my Dad and loved it  --  even at age 6 or 7 when I was mostly interested in riding the golf cart!    I began taking golf lessons and attending camps around age 12.   I made varsity in my Freshman year and found that I not only loved competitive golf, but really loved being on a team where you play for the school, for yourself, and for your teammates.

In the summer before my Junior year, I made the committment to take it to the next level.   I was named co-captain, improved my average score by 18 strokes, and was an All Conference Honorable Mention.  I also qualified for State at Regionals with an 89 at Egypt Valley CC (5667 yards!).     We came in second in the conference, but that was the highest we had been for many years.   Coach was named MIGCA Coach of the Year!

Before this past season, I never thought I'd have a realistic chance to play in college.  But after knocking 18 strokes off my average in 2011, I began thinking that I can repeat that this year!   I began working with LPGA Instructor Patti Butcher in January 2012 and I am seeing quick improvement -- especially with my distance.

My immediate goal is for our team to win the conference next fall.   I want to encourage and motivate my teammates to reach the next level.

For now, I'm focusing on swing mechanics and short game skills with my swing coach.  I am also playing as often as the Michigan weather, homework and softball will permit.    When my softball season winds down, I'll begin competing on the Michigan Junior circuit.   I aim to get my average down to the low 80's by fall.

My main goal, is to find a great college with a fun bunch of girls who want to win. Update 9-29-12: We won the OK White Conference after an undefeated season! I made All Conference, ranking 3rd overall. Next is the regional tournament and hopefully we'll qualify for States.
