My name is Marissa Kovac and I am a sophomore at Lake Orion High School (enrollment ~2400) in Lake Orion, MI in southeast Michigan. I have been playing the game of golf since I was 9 years old. I am 5'9" and 135 lbs.
I would like to play and participate in college golf because I believe that the experience will not only better me as a golfer, but as a person as well. The morals and experiences taught within that level of golf will help me build better qualities as an individual both on and off the golf course. Some qualities I try to portray for my teammates and coaches are good sportsmanship and a positive environment. As everyone - players, friends and coaches comments about me - I like to have fun and I do a phenomenal job at forgetting my last hole or mistaken shot. My personal motto is to learn from it and move on.
Golf is a year round love for me. I train all winter indoors with private and group instruction and additional time on the simulator 3-4 times per week at: https://larryhamiltongolf.com. Larry is my swing coach. My tournament play this year will begin down south in March (Golfweek Junior Tour) and then move northward for AJGA, Callaway and Top50 spring and summer events. I will work this summer at Twin Lakes Golf Club in Rochester, MI. This winter, I also went through an entire bag fitting at Club Champion - Royal Oak, MI. Adam White is my club fitter.
High School golf begins mid-August. My HS golf coach is Monty Gallaher. I have been a solid contributor to my high school golf team since starting as a freshman and have qualified to go to the State of Michigan Championships 2 years in a row. My freshman year, we qualified as a team and my sophomore year, I qualified as an individual and Finished 6th overall in that division.
I have not yet decided on a desired major in college yet, but I really enjoy the field of science.
My desired goals for college golf are to contribute to the team and not sit out. I want to participate in tournaments around the country. I love to travel and experience new things. Some of my fondest memories are of traveling to tournaments with my father and traveling to see family in Europe. I understand that academics and grades are very important. During my freshman year of high school I maintained a 3.8 GPA. As a sophomore this year (3.8 GPA) I try my best to balance academics and golf, yet I am able to manage both. I do very well with time management and I can set my priorities straight.
I hope this information has educated you well enough to know more about me as a golfer and person. Thank you for your time.
