Update: Hi there! At this time, I have signed my National Letter of Intent to continue my academic and athletic career at The University of West Florida!
Hello, prospective colleges! My name is 'Ailana Leos, a dedicated and passionate high school golfer. I am eager to take my skills and enthusiasm to the collegiate level. As a Junior at Thornapple Kellogg High School, I have not only honed my golfing abilities but have also demonstrated strong academic performance, leadership qualities, and a commitment to community service.
Athletic Achievements:Throughout my golfing career, I have consistently excelled on the golf course, achieving notable accomplishments that showcase my commitment to the sport. I have been a key player on our varsity golf team since freshman year, when I earned our #2 spot, then earning the #1 spot for sophomore and junior year thus far. My leadership role has not only sharpened my interpersonal skills but has also given me the opportunity to inspire and motivate my teammates, which is the most important accomplishment.
My dedication to improvement is evident in my perseverance day by day. Like anybody, I have good and bad days, but I pride myself on my motivation to continue improving, and to put the past behind myself. This year in specific, I am proud to have secured top finishes in prestigious tournaments, including the MHSAA Region 9 Regional tournament held at Point O' Woods where I tied for 3rd and secured an individually qualifying spot for States. D2 MHSAA States was held at MSU's Forest Akers East, where I shot an 82-76 in ever-changing tough conditions to place 12th individually in a field of over 120 girls. These experiences have not only elevated my individual performance but have also equipped me with the resilience and mental fortitude required to compete at the collegiate level.
Academic Excellence:In addition to my achievements on the golf course, I have maintained a rigorous academic schedule, consistently earning a place on the honor roll, and having obtained the student of the month award several times. This year, I have been challenging myself in a new way through Dual Enrolling and taking 2 college classes each semester. Last semester I enrolled through Grand Rapids Community College, and this semester through Davenport University. My commitment to academic excellence reflects my belief in the importance of balancing sports and education. I am confident that my strong work ethic and discipline will allow me to excel both academically and athletically in a college setting.
Character and Leadership:Beyond the golf course and classroom, I am actively involved in various extracurricular activities that have allowed me to develop as a well-rounded individual. I have served as a coach throughout last summer at The Legacy at Hastings. I volunteered and helped kids with the YMCA golf camp throughout the month of June, and I also Volunteer Assistant Coached for our Junior PGA. League teams, this spanned both June and July. I am looking forward to coaching again this coming summer, I find it as an amazing way to give back to not only the community, but to the course, the people, and the program that has helped me to get where I am today. And there is no better feeling than knowing that I can help these kids do the same! They have such bright futures ahead!
In conclusion, I am thrilled at the prospect of joining a collegiate team to pursue the continuation of my academic and athletic journey through college. I am confident that my passion for golf, coupled with my academic achievements and leadership skills, make me a valuable asset to your collegiate community.
Thank you. I look forward to the possibility of being a part of your collegiate family and contributing to the continued success of the golf program.
