I am a 17 year old senior at Huron High School in New Boston, Mi. I will be graduating this May and will start college in the fall. I believe that both golf and academics will be very important to my success in college and my professional career.
I started playing golf as a freshmen and have steadily improved over the last 4 years. I received my first varsity letter in golf as a sophomore in addition to being awarded the most improved for both my sophomore and junior years. As a senior I was given the coach’s award, I was first team all-league, first team all-county and was first team all-academic and I am currently carrying a 3.3 GPA.
Although golf is an individual sport, I thrive in the team setting. I was named team captain and as team captain I felt my responsibility was to lead by example on and off the golf course and the practice facility. I took it upon myself to organize team events and team building activities. This year my team had its best season ever (12-3) finishing second in our league and tied for third in our region.
In October all of my hard work to date paid off when I qualified for the State Championship, I was the first female golfer in 30 years at my school to qualify for the State Championship as an individual. I finished in 11th place for individuals and truly enjoyed the opportunity to compete with the best female golfers in the state.
Through my dedication to the sport and with the help of a professional swing coach I was able to lower my 18 hole scoring average by over 10 strokes to 95 from my junior to senior year. I shot my best golf in championship play as I posted my best score of 92 in back to back rounds during league and regional meets.
I am determined to play golf at the collegiate level and will continue to strive to improve my game throughout my college career. I have a true love/passion for the game and I am currently working my plan to become the best possible golfer I can be. My plan includes physical practice, mental training, professional swing instruction, fitness, strength training and nutrition.
I have developed several strengths in my golf game including distance off the tee, fairway shots, and play around the green. I am determined to improve my overall consistency and putting.
My long term golfing goal for college is to become the best player I can and to be a team leader. My short term golf for freshmen year is to score consistently in the eighties and to build upon that for my sophomore year. I feel I have the potential to score in the seventies with consistency by the end of my college career. With my drive for success and the support of my family and an excellent golf program I know I can achieve these goals.
