Coach Walters’ Summary:
Hannah is the type of person that would be a great addition to anyone’s golf program and college or university. She is an extremely hard worker on and off the course. She pushes herself to be the best and I have never worried about her motivation level or work ethic. In addition, she is a great teammate. Everyone loves being on the team with Hannah. She pushes others to get better and is encouraging when her teammates have had a rough day. She is a big reason our golf team has made the State Finals 2 out of the past 3 years (finishing 6th last season). Hannah is someone that never gets in trouble or causes problems on the team. She is very coachable and is completely interested in improving. Her maturity and leadership skills are exactly what any coach would be looking for.
It is clear from her stats that she has improved a lot over the past three years. When she began her freshman year, it was clear that she had natural, athletic talent, but very little competitive golf experience. Over the past 3 years, she has worked extremely hard and learned how to compete. This past season, she was the SMAC Conference champion (about 90 players) after firing a 75 on the 2nd day of the tournament at a very challenging Island Hills course. Hannah has played a lot of difficult courses and tournaments the past three years and will be ready for the next level. She has played the #1 spot the past 2 seasons, and we play 12+ eighteen-hole tournaments a season. In addition, Hannah plays a very difficult summer schedule that includes the Adams tour, the Michigan Junior Amateur and the WWGA National Championship in Iowa. She wants to play college golf and has been preparing the past 3 years to get to that level. She also travels to Grand Rapids for lessons from the phenomenal teacher, Patti Butcher.
While Hannah has been very successful throughout her golf career, I believe that she is only beginning to scratch the surface. Her potential for growth over the next few years is scary. She has not been playing competitively for very long, so as she learns more about the game she’ll be scoring regularly in the low 70’s. Hannah had a teammate 2 years ago that is currently the #3 player for St. Mary’s (as a sophomore), and Hannah is already better as a junior than Sammie Averill was as a senior. I have no doubts about Hannah’s future. She is a hard worker, great student, excellent teammate, self-motivated, and has immense potential. She will be a fantastic addition to any college or university and especially to their golf program.
