Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Katelyn Frank. I am 5'4", I weigh 130 pounds. I used to be an active volleyball player until it overlapped with my golf season and I made the decision to pursue golf. Some of my important accomplishments include being the two time state champion in class "A" high school golf in Montana. I also hold other smaller champion titles in golf tournaments I participate in during the summer. I have been playing golf for most of my life however in the last 4 years it has become a great interest of mine and my freshman year I pursued it at a competitive level. I have been the team captain of my high school team for all three years of my high school experience. I work hard to improve in every area that I can in my golf game. Practice to me is a time to improve on accuracy and distances. However it is also a time to relax and enjoy the sport I love. Since my freshman year I have wanted to play in college. My parents have been very supportive but have not gone to extreme extents to push me to play golf. This has contributed to my interest in golf. They have also played a big part in my interest in college golf. Golf is more of an escape for me, a chance to get out of my daily rituals and enjoy the outdoors for hours at a time. This is one of the reasons that I hope to continue playing after high school. My scoring history over my three years of high school range from shooting in the 80's and 90's as a freshman to low 70's to 80's while a junior. I have improved steadily over my three high school years gaining strength and confidence in my game. My 2009 highlights included shooting 32 for nine holes and 72 in a Class AA high school meet. I am currently playing exclusively from the men's tees (6200 yards) to prepare myself for college golf and routinely practice solely with the boy's team for higher levels of local competition. That is my dad's idea and I have enjoyed the challenge of hitting it farther and working harder on my short game. I really have no idea where I want to go to school. I would prefer to go to a more populated region, not necessarily in the middle of nowhere. Recently my family and I have relocated to Sidney, Montana from Boise, Idaho and I have found that I prefer the larger cities over small town life! I am open to any populated areas but will not limit myself only to them. I am looking for a big school. Preferably Division 1 or 2, but I would be happy with a division 3 program as well as I would look at any school that thinks I could help them out by playing for them. I think that I want to go into criminal justice, or something to do with law. I have not completely made up my mind in that area, but I have always had an interest in helping people in the ways that policemen and women do. My athletic goals include continuing to play after high school, participating in the team as a freshman and challenge myself with high levels of competition. I set goals to beat people and improve my abilities every day. There is no other feeling that can compare to finally turning in a lower score then the girl who beats you week after week. I also look forward to playing on a team with golfing equals to myself so that I can help a team achieve a championship! I hope you will consider me as a person of interest.
