My name is Amelia Gladys and I am a member of the 2020 class at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School in Reno, Nevada. This academically challenging school offers me the opportunity to do my best both athletically and in my studies.
For the past three years, I have worked hard to become the best female golfer at my school. As a junior, I was asked to serve as the captain of our team and it was an exciting season. I shot a 77 at Toiyabe Golf Club during one tournament, leading my team to take first place. For the season, we won six of eight tournaments. I led my team to first place in our division and we placed second at the regional tournament and consequently, we earned a spot in the state championship where I earned all-state honorable mention.
I train all year long with my coach, Chris Trevino, founder of the Trevino Golf Institute. During the winter, I continue to train at the TGI indoor facility which is equipped with TrackMan, TOMI Putting as well as other equipment. I am working on continuing to lower my scoring average (currently 78) and increase my swing speed (currently 98 miles per hour) by playing in the Hurricane tour and the Junior Tournament of California.
Because of hard work, determination and a lot of late nights studying, I am also accomplished academically. I have a 3.89 unweighted GPA, a 3.99 Core GPA and a 4.04 weighted GPA. I am a member of the National Honor Society. My course load is always rigorous; my junior year included AP Physics, AP History and AP English and my senior year includes AP Bioloby, AP English Lit, AP Research and Honors Pre-Calc.
My goal is to attend a college that offers a strong pre-med curriculum in order to prepare me for medical school. I am constantly helping out my community as I took an internship at Renown Hospital over the summer and I volunteer at multiple fundraisers.
Golf has taught me to take on challenging situations head on. I am flexible by nature and thrive on balancing an aggressive course load while driving myself to continue to improve my game. I am eager to take on golf at the collegiate level. You’ll find that I am very coachable, a great team player and driven to succeed.
