My name is Lauren Mauch and I attend Hollis Brookline High School in New Hampshire in the graduating class of 2023. My goal is to play college golf and major in actuarial science.
I have spent many years playing competitive volleyball including experience from club teams as well as my high school's team. I recently switched to the varsity golf team after picking up the game in April, 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown. In the beginning, golf was an outlet for me to be active in sports during COVID-19, but I soon realized that golf provided me the opportunity to challenge myself as there is always room for improvement. Golf really appealed to me because I am extremely focused and am competitive in nature. After putting a lot of work into my golf game during the summer, my next goal was to make my high school golf team. I achieved this goal and played as the fourth best golfer on our regular season co-ed team. I was also named a co-captain and contributed my scores to the team’s average at school matches. My 9-hole average for my junior (2021) season is 45.
Recently, I competed in the 2021 Girls Individual Championship for the state of New Hampshire and placed 17th with a score of 96. The first tournament I played in was three months prior in early July. In those three months I dropped 13 strokes off of my score as I shot a 109 in July. My focus and determination to become a better player has paid off during my 2021 season and I plan on continuing to work hard as well as encouraging my teammates to do the same.
Looking forward, my goal is to continue to improve my game and play in college. I am eager to compete in a college environment as my high school team is very small with 13 players and I am the only girl so far, I am currently recruiting more females for our team. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement, I look forward to updating it next season.
